That pictures above is probably not the oldest tomb ever found, but it’s the oldest tomb with a legible date; the earliest date on any tombstone, to date.
It’s the tomb of Rev. Ephraim Huit who died on September, 4th, 1644, and buried in the old burying ground of Windsor; Palisado Cemetery. It reads:
Who when hee lived wee drew our vitall breath,
Who when hee dyed his dying was our death,
Who was ye stay of State, Ye Churches Staff,
Alas the times forbid an Epitaph
